Hi all!
I went to Kinokuniya yesterday & saw this book there. Only 3 were on the book shelf.
The retail price was RM105.90

Re: Book review - Planet Cake
Very reasonable price indeed considering if PST15 converted at 6 gives RM90. And no airfare to pay either

Re: Book review - Planet Cake
YM...u either go there early or dont bother to go at all coz KLCC during school holidays are like a can of sardines...hehehe.
Yeah, better wait till school reopens next week, plus you can browse other books without kids (lots of kids!!!Seriously lots of them) running around Kino

Re: Book review - Planet Cake
Anne, Maisie Parrish's marzipan animal book is sold atSquire Kitchen. I had it in my hand when I was there but put it down
I have a book by another cake artist, Maisie Fantaisie called Sweet and Simple Party Cakes - the review can be done, no problem.

Re: Book review - Planet Cake
very interested in the book. if i were to order direct from amazon, do you guys think it'll end up being cheaper than buying from bookshops locally?
Re: Book review - Planet Cake
Anne, Maisie Parrish's Character with Cakes is still available at ICCA Kota Damansara. They had one copy when I was there last saturday. It is RM103. Call and ask them to keep the copy for you if you are interested.
Re: Book review - Planet Cake
Yes, book reviews will be SO helpful. What about Rose Levy barembaum's cake bible? Found her on youtube and looking for the book.
Also, Mich Turner's Fantastic Party cakes. I read it in MPH but last time I went no more stock. I was so inspired.

Re: Book review - Planet Cake
Najat,
I think I am the only person here who does not own cake decorating books except the Wilton ones! Your review has inspired me to buy this book. I have friends coming down from the UK this summer and they have already ordered this book plus another for me (besides cutters and stuff) and I await with much anticipation!

Re: Book review - Planet Cake
Anne (jenihmc), welcome to the Cake Book Lovers club, or should it be Cake Book Hoarders club?
You will discover how 'basic' the Wilton books are but don't throw them away as they ARE very useful for guides.
My books are my investment and I treat them well. I would photocopy the frequently used pages and these can get as dirty as they can in the kitchen and the original stays clean. I have a 3-in-1 printer-scanner-copier at home so I do this often.
You will also discover that different cake artists have their unique styles. Lindy Smith for example loves the indian inspired and contemporary designs and colours and she is very much into cake jewellery now. BTW have you seen the promo of her new DVD? - awesome looking cakes and mostly wonky cakes!!
I can relate to her style as I love the indian & paisley designs.
If you have the time Anne, Google for the many cake books in Amazon and read the reviews before you decide to buy. Some are treasures to have and some may not be your cup of tea.

Re: Book review - Planet Cake
Sometimes on sites like Amazon (and many others) you can take a peek at the pages inside a book. If you rajin, search for PDF formats for more preview pages. It will help you decide whether buying a particular book is worth it.
