Engagement Cookies
A friend asked me to do some cookies as an engagement present to her brother-in-law this week. She loves the colour pink so much and requested for pink and lilac theme.
Here they are - cookies from Flour Pot book and fondant covered and decorated.
These 2 were extras meant for office friends

Some of the Pink Brigade

And in the Lilac Brigade

Re: Engagement Cookies
Love your letter embossers, too. U must hv got em in ur trip to UK ...
I made some butterfly lollipop cookies for my dotter's teachers' day celeb using the flour pot recipe that u recommended and they turned out really yummy. I used royal icing to ice em ... my first on both .. baking lollipop cookies and playing with royal icing. The RI dried really fast. Abt 1/2 hr or so.
My question now is ... when u cover the cookies with fondant, do u hv to leave it out to dry? If yes, how long before packaging? Looks easier and less messier than using RI ...
TIA ..

Re: Engagement Cookies
TQ Zalina & Lyza (I can put the face to the name whenever I write now that I have met you Lyza
)
Flour Pot recipe never failed me before and most people find the cookies crispy and crunchy. I would leave the cookies to dry for about 30"-40". Last week the weather was so hot that it helped a lot on the fondant.
As for the alphabet embosser there was a thread earlier discussing the topic. I did not get it from London but ordered it via SG. Here is the link

Re: Engagement Cookies
Thank you Najat for sharing the recipe with us. I tried the recipe and my cookies came out beautifully. I also made some cookies (decorated with royal icing) for my son to bring to school on teachers' day. Everyone loved it.
How did you manage to stick the fondant on the cookies? I tried using piping gel and my cookies became soft.

Re: Engagement Cookies
Lyza, it was Chong who had the SG lady contact. Mine was ordered by a friend in SG who ordered from a forum there. So neither of us know the person but ordered based on trust
Carolyn, glad to know you get good results too.
I used thinned glucose as the glue. Mix a tbsp of glucose with plain water until you get a thin liquid but not watery.
It dries pretty fast. Piping gel will not dry as good. You can also use thinned buttercream but I have never tried it before since the glucose worked fine for me.

Re: Engagement Cookies
Jo, once you tried the mini embosser you'll love it too!!
My last cake tonight will be for my nephew and will be flying to Alor Star with it tomorrow morning, and to do his hantaran as well.
And oh yes ... I baked 5 mud cakes this morning - one for the hantaran and rest for my daughter's friends birthdays. Having a big oven certainly help with my baking time, one shot all 5 can go in (an 8", 6", 2x7" and a 4"). That's how I manage my time in the kitchen. They are coooling off while I am in office ..

Re: Engagement Cookies
Anu you would not want to be me - I multi-task most times and am hard on myself too, but I am a kind/fun boss in office
For now, imagine a zombie with eye bags and bloodshot eyes - that's me with lack of rest/sleep and now am having running nose and a slight fever.
And after office rushing to Petalling Street for fresh flowers for the hantaran ... Jo knows that I was officially mad since last week
The madness shall stop with tomorrow's hantaran.

Re: Engagement Cookies
Najat, while you can bake all the cakes at one go, the time consuming part is to ice 5 cakes individually. I really salute you for being a supermom!

Re: Engagement Cookies
Najat, it's great that you could cope but just be careful when you are overstretched. This is speaking from experience, was so tired from the weekend's cakes that i had a major accident on Mon. Luckily no one was hurt (my daughter was in car too) but suffice to say I've learnt my lesson.
