I went to Jay's place yesterday and bought some stuff. Really wanted to get more of the embosser strip but since this is a hobby and not yet a career, I don't know what I would have done with them! hehe Also, I'm moving soon so I had to restrain myself!

I was excited with my new toys and I played with some pieces of the mooncake mould set that I got. I used the gourmet writer pens to fill in the colours. Need a steadier hand to do a better job next time!

That's all for now!

Hi All,

Went to Silver Chef Academy (SCA) for their demo few weeks back and I personally found it quite interesting & unique albeit not what we have been used to. This is coz their designs are more Asian...Taiwanese to be exact using whipped cream and also a "not so sweet" smooth buttercream. I think its something like Tan See Fong's kind of style (hv not seen TSF's work other than in his books).

SCA will be conducting a class on Sat. 26th Sept. Think its suitable for ...

Baker Station -- baking supplier

I was driving near my mom's place in section 12, PJ last night when I spotted Baker Station. It's along Jalan Bukit. Same row as Khadijah's restaurant. Opposite Ehsan Ria Condo.

They just opened 3days ago. According to the owner, Umai Thevi, they are open from 9am-9pm, Mon - Sat.

It's a small shop selling baking supplies. They also sell pastries and desserts, more like a baking supplier cum bakery.

Bakers/decorators around this area should be happy with this little outlet.

I visited Bakery China 2009 in Shanghai last month. It's an annual event where lots of bakery related suppliers/manufacturers gather. It's also my first visit to such a huge exhibition. Literally, did not have enough hands to carry the things that I would like to buy . Will definitely be better prepared the next time. A lot of the stuff that is being sold locally are actually sourced from China and they are cheap!!

Here are pictures of some of the display.

A bridal fair organised by Holiday Inn and Weddings Malaysia.com. I was expecting a rather poor turn-up rate but I was glad that I was wrong. It was really well organised. Got the opportunity to meet some of the big guys in the wedding industry. Am honoured to be part of the whole event.

These shots were taken by Jeriel.

Hi!

I visited Bagus, Kajang yesterday evening and they had large boxes - 16" x 16" x 16" in stock! I was pretty excited as I desperately needed this size for a wedding this weekend. It's one size that is super difficult to find and I grabbed a few - I am thinking now that I probably should have got a few more but storage is a limitation. I will probably need to convert one of my rooms into a storage room in time to come. One store room hardly does the job!

Chefmaster Meringue Powder

Maybe this has been on BWY Puchong's shelve for some time already but I only saw it today:

Price is RM 33 for 567g. Read carefully, it is GRAMS. Do you know how much it takes for something light like meringue powder to achieve a weight of 567g? The bottle is 6 inch in height! According to the recipe of royal icing at the back of the bottle, you will need 4 tbsp instead of 3 for Wilton's. Haven't tried making royal icing with this. Will let everybody knows if it smells .........

Hi!

I was super excited to see tubs of Satin Ice Fondant on the shelf at Yummie's in Bangi. I bought a tub (1 lb) costing RM 25-90 and tested it for the family fruit cake last Christmas.

Verdict: It tastes good and is easier to work with than pettince. I got my 'apprentice' to roll it out for me while I was working on another cake and he did it quite easily. It can be rolled quite thinly to be placed on the cake without even a slight tear. It smoothens out easily too. It's ...
