Looking for bakers in Melaka

Post by Najat Ahmad on Mon Jun 22, 2009 9:47 am

Dear Members,

Any bakers in Melaka amongst us who can deliver to Ayer Keroh area ?
I'm sourcing for my daughter's school (the students have many functions) and just a heads-up - their pocket money / budget is limited, so only anyone with a BIG heart and can accept limited budget please PM me.

FYI I do cupcakes, cakes and cookies for them and most time its FOC Smile but they know if it is a short notice function they need someone closer to Ayer Keroh to do for them.

I went to the school last saturday for a function and my daughter and her friends showed me bakery-mass produced cupcakes with the simplest royal icing decoration ever - like a blob or a squiggle of RI on them, no flowers and the RI did not even cover the cake 100% - yes royal icing used to decorate the cupcakes and not buttercream. The kids had no choice but to accept the delivery.
The cakes were dry, like a week old cupcakes, and there is no taste of butter or flavouring. Most likely margarine was used instead - I tasted one and could not finished it.

The kids felt cheated. Just because it is school kids who ordered the cupcakes, they feel the bakery think the kids do not know how good cakes tasted like or that they know how a week old cake tasted like too.

So what did they do? - they throw away most of the cupcakes (it costs RM1.50 per piece) or like mine, she asked me to bring back the cupcakes and feed the birds ...

Oh dear, so kesian the kids. They shouldn't be shortchanged like that. Maybe they can beg the school authorities to let them use the kitchen and bake their own cupcakes, hehehe.

I've baked for kids who want to sell cupcakes at school canteen days and bakesales and charge them RM1 each for the regular-sized cuppies. I use butter and put buttercream icing, complete with swirls, rosettes or whatever design they want (even use homemade gumpaste flowers which I have leftovers of), use dragees and sugar hearts and whatever I happen to have ... put 3 or 4 cupcakes each in the small silver or gold cake boxes some more! But of course, this price is only for school kids and it's up to them to resell at whatever price.

Too bad delivering to Air Keroh I can't do!

I know Zalina .. PJ is too far for me to deliver their cakes all the time and all the way there ..
I would do for them if the time is right or if I get ample notice.
Most times I do extra nice or put extra stuff so the kids' taste palettes have been trained by yours truly ... Razz

Hi. This sounds interesting. When is the order? I don't live in melaka but I have relatives there I visit very often. I brought birthday cakes there (including cheesecake) for them bfore. I might be able to do an order to melaka if the time is right.

Bekah, no orders right now but the student committee will decide on the supplier and will contact the supplier as and when they need the cakes. I am not involved in the selection Razz
