try this:

http://www.cuisine-asia.com/Reader_recipes/READERec071008.asp

Recipe by Anita Khaw..a good friend I know. She's a Malaysian but now resides in the Netherlands. She loves to bake and make it sound so simple. So many people have tried this recipe that she shared openly. You may see her recipe all over the NET on various food blogs and she goes by the nickname of Dralion.

The photo of the cake is baked by me and photographed by me.

Smile

Thks for the recipe. Will try it out. As in steaming do I steam in the steamer that we use to steam pau? can we bake it instead of steaming?

It stated that it can make into cupcake so does that mean we bake or steam?

thanks

don't add more butter. or your cake will be very oily after its baked. I have tried baking it with the above ingredients, without any modifications. It just makes the cake smell more like a 'marbled cake'.

when you steam a cake, water vapour are trapped in the wok/steamer and moisten the cake. So this is how the cake is soft, light and yet moist.

when you bake it, all the liquid will be evaporated in high heat. Thus its drier. The butter in the batter helps to moisten it. But its not the same texture with steam

Cindy, did you bake or steam the cake?

Can I ask if you gals who have made this cake, if it is a little sweet? By looking at the recipe sugar is 2x the flour. Looks sweet to me. Razz

Essmat, you could steam in a steamer if you have a stemer which looks something like this and this. The lowest rack for filling water while the upper racks are for placing your dishes, cakes, kuih etc. You could also use electical steamer but it's not easy to find a big and powerful one. The steam generated is not quite sufficient and rapid for steaming cake and kuih. I have such white elephant deep inside my cabinet now Embarassed

For Chinese, we steam our food this way:

I used a square baking pan and lining with parchment papers. the steamer i have is just a normal 2 tiers cheap aluminium with black handle. I'm trying to figure out how to steam if using cupcake pans)steamer not big enough. Also thought maybe the wilton individual silicone cups might work. Haven't try my hands on this mission yet.

Cindy, you could also get individual aluminium cups from kitchenware shops at PJ Old Town if you are interested. These places are quite a treausre as you can actually find a lot of things there. The only shortcoming is..... their stocks are very messy so you really need to dig in, haha........... Very Happy
