Re: Good baking classes
beldandy, shall we go together-gether?
My only concern with attending Wilton 123 is that I'm already quite familiar with using fondant and gumpaste. The only thing that I'm not good with using fondant and gumpaste is to produce nice designs like those roses, figurines, etc.
As for buttercream, I'm bad a piping. I'm now piping the way I like, without proper guidance on the techniques.
So, I'm still not too sure if Wilton 123 will be the correct class of choice for me?

I'll let you know when I register myself.
regarding the design, you can buy special books that teach you how to make the design... I saw a lot at Amazon.

Re: Good baking classes
I heard that Cooking House in Desa Sri Hartamas is good. You can learn to bake and decorate in one class if you take their cupcakes classes. Their instructors are highly experienced.

With regards to Wilton 123, I have mentioned this before; I did not like the fact that in Malaysia, we are not allowed to choose which classes to take. After spending tons of money during Wilton 1 & 2, I found out that I only enjoy working with fondant.

Re: Good baking classes
I took my basic cake making and decorating classes from Grace. Her cakes are very nice.
What I liked about her classes is that you have to do your homework after each class. You have to reproduce what she taught the previous week. You have to bake and decorate the cake at home and bring it to her. She will then correct yr mistakes frm there.
She also has advance classes only for those who took their basic with her.
Her continental cakes classes are also very nice but these are just demo classes.
The other place I love is Cake Connection. You can pick and choose what you like and the place is comfortable and very conducive.

Re: Good baking classes
Yuha, Need your expert advise. I have completed all the Wilton courses. Is Grace's basic classes anything like Wiltons? I mean I want to learn the 3-D cakes from Grace but she will only allow me if I have gone thru her basic classes. I dont want to waste $$$ learning the same technique twice.

Re: Good baking classes
Carolyn, I have only taken Wilton course 1 because I wanted to to take their fondant class. Seriously I was not happy to take the the wilton's course 1 because most of the techniques were covered in Grace's basic 1.
The only consolation was that I learned how to pipe Wilton's rose. Otherwise I found that it was too pricey to learn something I already knew and I was kinda bored during the class as I have learned most of it at Grace's.
I know Grace only allows her basic students to go for her advance classes, so it's kinda tough if you want to pay for something you already know just because you want to learn something else.
You may learn something new at Grace's basic which was not covered at Wilton but I don't think you want to pay so much $$$$ to learn most of what you already know.
Hope this helps.

Re: Good baking classes
Hi,
I've taken Grace basic classes too. Her cakes are really good. I have only taken one of her continental cakes class, (black forest, peach cream cheese and moist carrot cake) and also a few of her cheese cakes and advance classes. Her cakes especially cheese cakes are really yummy!!

Jennifer, Grace's cakes are really good. Yummy, I must say. No doubt about that.
Re: Good baking classes
Thanks Yuha for yr advice. Looks like I have to be contented with learning her cakes/cheesecake. Am going for my 1st lesson and its on Choc Indulgence Cheesecake, Choc Cheese Butterscotch & Choc Almond Cheese.

An idea for the creator of this site - online interactive classes. They may become an international hit! The work I see on this site is excellent!
